Online Reading Room

Online Reading Room Thursday, Wes Clark drew a sharp contrast to the Bush Administration's policy of governing in secret by launching an online reading room containing a complete array of his personal and financial documents. Anyone who wants to can see Clark's records at any time. Clark challenged fellow Democrats to follow his lead because, "the stakes in this election are too high to let George Bush off the hook for governing in secret."

Americans expect a higher standard of leadership and General Clark has provided that by putting his records on the web for all to see. Last week, he made available his military records, tax returns for the last five years, voting registration documents and financial records in paper form in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Clark slammed the Bush Administration for governing behind closed doors: "It's time President Bush played it straight with the American people. President Bush has shut the people out of government and told them they have no right to know what he says to special interests in the Oval Office. As president, my administration will be an open book. We need a higher standard of leadership in Washington."

As President, Clark will reverse the current Administration's secrecy policies. He will end the hiding of documents through classification extension and Freedom of Information Act rollbacks. He will also end the stonewalling of the investigations into September 11th and Bush's Energy Task Force.

Clark will establish an Openness Doctrine that will eliminate secret task forces, disclose all meetings with special interests, require lobbyists to reveal more, and use the Internet to make government transparent.

"This is just another way for people to get to know me and to know that I mean what I say when I call for openness," Clark said.
