Clark Outlines Agenda For Children

Opening the Doors of Opportunity to All Our Children

Portsmouth, NH - Today, at the Seacoast Family YMCA in Portsmouth, NH, Wes Clark outlined his agenda for the children of New Hampshire and America. He emphasized the importance of expanding health care coverage, improving education and lifting children out of poverty.

"President Bush talks a lot about family values, but it's clear from his record he doesn't value families," said Clark. "I think we have a responsibility to base every decision we make about our future on the answer to one simple question: will it be good for our children?"

Clark's agenda for our children includes the following:

  • Families First Tax Reform to help 31 million families - 159,000 in New Hampshire - make ends meet

  • 700,000 children lifted out of poverty - 1,000 children in New Hampshire

  • Health Insurance for every single American child - covering an additional 32,000 children in New Hampshire

  • Preschool for every single 4 year-old in America whose family wants it - 16,000 4 year-old children in New Hampshire

  • Elementary and high school improvements for America's schools - impacting all 209,000 public school students in New Hampshire

  • Universal college grants to help one million Americans enroll in college - 4,200 in New Hampshire

  • Safe and affordable homes for American children - including the one quarter of people in state-funded homeless shelters in New Hampshire who are children

  • Clean air for American children - resulting in approximately 1,600 fewer children in New Hampshire having asthma attacks
