Date: January 10, 2004 General Clark Discusses How His Families First Tax Reform Plan Will Help Wisconsin Families
Superior, WI - Today, at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, in Superior, WI, General Clark discussed how his Families First Tax Reform Plan will help Wisconsin families. Clark announced that, under his plan, 548,800 families will receive a tax cut. And an additional 80,600 families will pay no income taxes at all. "Right now, too many people here in Wisconsin are working harder and harder and earning less and less. And as incomes have fallen, expenses have gone up - way up," said Clark. "You hear a lot of people talking about family values these days. Well, I think it's high time we started valuing families. That's exactly what my Families First Tax Reform Plan will do." Under General Clark's plan, families of four making under $50,000 won't have to pay one penny in federal income tax. And all taxpaying families with children making under $100,000 will get a tax cut. The plan will benefit 31 million families. In addition, filing taxes will no longer be an ordeal. Under Clark's plan, Americans will be able to determine whether they need to pay taxes simply by filling out one three-line form. And more than half of families won't need to file a single form. Clark's plan will make our tax system fairer, more progressive, and more pro-growth - without increasing the deficit by one dime. Relief for working families will be fully paid for by closing corporate loopholes and by a 5 percentage point rate increase on income over $1 million a year. Only the top 0.1 percent of taxpayers will be affected - 99.9 percent of taxpayers won't pay one dime more.
