Former Secretary of the Navy John Dalton Endorses Wesley Clark for President

Lebanon, NH - This afternoon in Lebanon, New Hampshire, former Secretary of the Navy John Dalton formally endorsed Wesley Clark in his campaign for the Presidency. Secretary Dalton served as the nation's 70th Navy Secretary in the Clinton Administration from 1993 until 1998.

John Dalton has established himself as a leader in both the private and public sectors and is credited with helping to save the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1995. Prior to his role as Secretary of the Navy, Dalton managed the San Antonio, Texas office of Stephens Inc., an investment banking firm based in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has also served as the president of the Government National Mortgage Association within the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In 1979, President Carter appointed Dalton to the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, where he was a member and chairman until 1981.

"It is time for a leader of vision, depth and compassion to deal with our nation's defense policy, and I am proud to support Wes Clark," said John Dalton. "From base closure questions to the vast issues of war and peace, we can trust in Wes Clark's experience and judgment. As Secretary of the Navy, I observed him during several of his commands, including his tenure as Supreme Allied Commander of NATO. I can attest that he has always served with the utmost skill, character and knowledge of international events."
