Young And Rangel To Serve As First Two Co-Chairs Of Clark's National Campaign Steering Committee

Little Rock - Today in Columbia, SC, the Clark campaign announced that Ambassador Andrew Young and Representative Charles Rangel will serve as the first two Co-Chairs of Wes Clark's National Campaign Steering Committee. The committee will provide guidance on major issues involving both policy and strategy and will help organize other leaders throughout the country.

"I'm thrilled that Ambassador Young and Congressman Rangel have stepped forward to take such crucial roles on my campaign. They are genuine American heroes, and their involvement makes it clear that this is a truly national effort to put real leadership back in the White House. They're starting here in South Carolina, but they'll be taking our message all across the United States."

Andrew Young worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King in the struggle for civil rights and went on to represent Georgia's 5th District in the U.S. Congress for three terms. He served as Ambassador to the United Nations under President Carter and later served two terms as Mayor of Atlanta.

Charles Rangel served as a sergeant in the Korean War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for courage in battle. He was later appointed Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. In 1970, he was elected to the House of Representatives and is currently serving his seventeenth consecutive term in office. Congressman Rangel is the ranking Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee, and is a founding member and former chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus.
