Date: November 26, 2003 Statement on Affirmative Action from Clark Campaign General Clark is a leader who knows that affirmative action is vital to the future of America. As a member of the U.S. military for 34 years, he learned that giving all Americans equal opportunity, regardless of race, is one of our leading national priorities. As a result, he wholeheartedly supports affirmative action. He has spoken extensively about his support for affirmative action, and even filed a brief with the Supreme Court in favor of affirmative action. As he recently said, "racial hatred has deep and pernicious roots in our nation's history. It is a cancer that needs to be cured, and affirmative action has been one of the most effective treatments. There is one thing the opponents of affirmative action have never wanted to admit: It works. I know this firsthand from my 34 years in the United States military." » Read General Clark's recent op-ed in the Detroit Free Press on affirmative action General Clark and his campaign wish all the other campaigns, and all Americans, a happy Thanksgiving. |
