Date: November 24, 2003 General Wesley K. Clark Comments on President Bush's Visit to Fort Carson Tomorrow, President Bush will visit Fort Carson, a military community that has lost twenty-seven of its soldiers in Iraq. "While I appreciate President Bush's visit, it's too little, too late," said Clark. "Our President has refused to attend a single funeral for a single soldier killed in Iraq. Even worse, he's banned media coverage and proper public ceremonies for deceased soldiers returning from the war Ð the kind of cover-up tactics we saw during Vietnam." General Clark was stationed at Fort Carson in 1980. "I served at Fort Carson with people who loved their country deeply and served it selflessly every day," said Clark. "They deserve more from our president." President Bush's visit comes the week after the Republican National Committee began airing an advertisement attacking Democrats who disagree with his policies in Iraq. "Not only has the President refused to face up to the consequences of his war, but his party is now implying that Democrats who oppose his policies are unpatriotic and don't want to fight terrorism," said Clark. "This country was founded on the very idea that it's patriotic to question reckless leadership. It is disturbing that our president seems to think otherwise." |
