Date: October 28, 2003 General Wesley Clark names James P. Rubin Senior Foreign Policy Adviser Little Rock - Today, General Wesley Clark welcomed James P. Rubin aboard his campaign for president. Rubin will serve -- without salary -- as the Senior Foreign Policy Advisor for Clark 04. General Clark said, "I look forward to working with Jamie as I continue to discuss my vision for foreign policy with the American people and explain the damage that the Bush Administration has done to our country's interests and our stature around the world." Under President Clinton, Rubin was the Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs from January 1997 to May 2000. Secretary of State Madeline Albright appointed him to be the department's chief spokesman. Rubin also served as a top policy adviser to the Secretary of State. In 1998, Rubin received Columbia University's John Jay Award for Distinguished Professional Achievement. In 2000, he was awarded the State Department's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award. From May 1993 until 1996, Rubin served as Senior Adviser and Spokesman for U.S. Representative to the United Nations Madeleine K. Albright. Prior to joining the Clinton administration, Rubin worked on the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations from 1989 to 1993. He was the research director for the Arms Control Association from 1985 to 1989. Rubin received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Columbia University in 1982 and a master's degree in international affairs in 1984. |
