October 25, 2003 Clark Supporters Up Early; Work Hard Nearly 200 people left their warm beds on a fall Saturday morning just to catch a glimpse of the man they're supporting for President, General Wesley Clark.
Clark presided over the grand opening of the Manchester, New Hampshire field office. Supporters drove in from as far as New York, Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts. Some left their homes as early as 5 am to be there. Clark thanked them for their dedication, but told them to "be ready to work hard. We've got a long road ahead, but we're in it to win it." After the ceremonies, about one hundred supporters went out to canvass the nearby areas and spread Clark's vision of a New American Patriotism. None of this would have happened without the Draft Clark movement, according to Bouchard. "We're merging the draft movement and the campaign," Bouchard said. "The work by the draft movement laid the foundation for everything that's happening now in this state. We're moving forward, Clark is drawing the media attention, he's the candidate with the buzz here." While members of the movement were out taking Clark's vision for a New American Patriotism door-to-door, Clark delivered his message to the AFL/CIO annual board meeting. "Because of unions we have workers compensation and worker retraining, safety regulations and collective bargaining, pensions and health insurance," Clark told about one hundred union board members. "That's because of people like you -- because of your work." The audience leaned forward to absorb what he had to say, interrupting him regularly with bursts of applause. |
