October 15, 2003 General Clark Raises Nearly $3.5 Million in Just Two Weeks Outpaces Early Efforts of All Democratic Contenders Little Rock -- General Wesley K. Clark announced today that his campaign has reported total receipts of $3,491,108.95 from approximately 20,000 donors -- in just two weeks after declaring his bid for the presidency. "When I decided to run for President, I was encouraged by the thousands of Americans who pledged to lend their support to me," General Clark said."I am humbled by the generosity and energy of the 20,000 Americans who contributed to my campaign - they share my belief that we have the opportunity and responsibility to take our country in a new direction." General Clark's first two weeks of fundraising far outpaced the early fundraising efforts of every other Democratic candidate. General Clark averaged nearly $250,000 a day in contributions. By contrast, in the first quarter they declared their bids for the White House: Howard Dean took in approximately $446 a day ($37,450 raised that quarter). John Kerry took in $5,975 a day ($501,898 raised that quarter). Not only did General Clark's fundraising outpace several of his rivals, he has demonstrated that he can use the Internet to bolster support for his campaign. Roughly two thirds of his campaign contributions, which averaged $175/donor, were raised on-line. Approximately $750,000 was received from Americans who had previously pledged money during the Draft Clark movement. The Clark campaign reported $3,383,848.98 in cash-on-hand and $31,058.19 of outstanding obligations. Expenditures totaled $107,259.97 during the reporting period. |
