General Clark Announces Key Staff Positions

Little Rock, AR: General Wesley K. Clark (Ret.) today announced that the following individuals have joined his campaign in the past week:
  • Eli Segal, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
  • Mickey Kantor, Chairman of the Steering Committee
  • Ambassador Richard Sklar, Chief Operating Officer
  • Matt Bennett, Director of Communications
  • Dianna Rogelle, Finance Director
  • Janet Abrams, Director of Administration and Control
  • John Hlinko, Director of Internet Strategy
  • Steve Bouchard, New Hampshire State Director
  • Maya Israel, Associate Director of Communications
  • Jamal Simmons, Traveling Press Secretary
General Clark said, "I am excited about the strong team that we are assembling. This talented group of people brings a wealth of government, non-profit, campaign, and private sector experience to my campaign."

Below are the biographies of the new Clark Campaign staff:

Eli Segal served as assistant to the president in the Clinton-Gore administration from 1993 to 1996, and then as the first CEO of the Corporation for National Service, where he was responsible for the legislation that created AmeriCorps. Mr. Segal also launched the Welfare-to-Work Partnership, a non-partisan organization of business leaders committed to hiring and retaining former welfare recipients. Mr. Segal sits on the board of directors of Hasbro, AC Moore, and Citizens bank , the board of advisors of Stonebridge International, LLC, and several non-profit organizations.

Mickey Kantor, former National Chair for Clinton/Gore 1992, Secretary of Commerce and United States Trade Representative, is currently a partner at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw, LLP. As Secretary of Commerce, Mr. Kantor played a leading role in promoting President Clinton's highly successful agenda to provide economic opportunities for American workers and businesses. As Trade Representative, Mr. Kantor worked to conclude more than 200 agreements to expand trade. Mr. Kantor has also served on numerous boards, including the Center for Study of Democratic Institutions, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education fund, and the Center for Law and Public Interest. Mr. Kantor was also a member of the Christopher Commission.

Ambassador Richard Sklar has held a wide range of senior positions in government and the private sector. Ambassador Sklar served as Ambassador to the United Nations in 1997, the President's Special Representative in Bosnia for Implementation of the Dayton Peace Accords in 1996-97, and from 1999-2001, as the Special Representative of the President to promote economic reconstruction and the development of market economies in Southeast Europe. In addition, Ambassador Sklar has founded, managed, and ultimately sold major businesses in the manufacturing and construction industries, and works as a professional mediator in commercial, environmental, and public/private disputes in California.

Matt Bennett served in the White House from 1997-2001, as Deputy Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs, and before that as Trip Director to Vice President Gore. Mr. Bennett also served in various capacities on the Clinton/Gore Campaigns in 1996 and 1992 and on the Dukakis Campaign in 1987-88. Mr. Bennett most recently served as Director of Public Affairs for Americans for Gun Safety, a nonprofit advocacy organization.

Diana Rogelle is the former Finance Director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee ("DSCC"). During her stint as Finance Director, the DSCC raised an unprecedented $134 million dollars in the 2000 campaign cycle. Ms. Rogelle has also served as finance director for Senator Byron Dorgan and Tom Strickland.

Janet Abrams has extensive experience in government, business, and the non-profit sector. She was most recently the Senior Director of the Corporate Executive Board Company. She has also served as a consultant to the Safe Tables Our Priority, and she worked in numerous capacities in the White House from 1994 to 2000.

John Hlinko was co-director of "DraftWesleyClark.com," a Web-centered movement that generated nearly $2 million in pledges for a Clark candidacy, engaged tens of thousands of volunteers, and generated enormous media attention. Hlinko's career has focused on "guerilla marketing" efforts. He has received several awards for his work and has been covered by CNN, Fox, Wired, Salon.Com, and NPR. Mr. Hlinko has also worked as an investment banker, campaign manager, dotcom marketing director, and a professional comedy writer.

Steve Bouchard was New Hampshire State Director for the Graham for President Campaign. Mr. Bouchard has also served as deputy campaign manager of the Sanchez for Governor Campaign in Texas and field director for the Warner for Governor Campaign in Virginia. Mr. Bouchard worked for Former Senator Bob Kerrey's BACKPAC, both nationally and in New Hampshire. He has served in various positions in New Hampshire politics, including the Democratic House Caucus Director and on a number of statewide and local campaigns.

Maya Israel has worked in media relations in various capacities, including serving as co-director of Locus Media, Inc., N.Y. City's vanguard art gallery and performance space - while also working as an Account Executive in a public relations firm in New York City. Ms. Israel has also worked as an actress on stage, television, and film, including appearances at Lincoln Center, and t.v.'s Law & Order and Third Watch. Ms. Israel has organized numerous charity-related events for organizations such as Gods Love We Deliver, NY Foundling Hospital, and other matters of social conscience.

Jamal Simmons most recently served as the press secretary to Senator Bob Graham's presidential campaign. Prior to that, Mr. Simmons served as the Communications Director for Max Cleland in 2002, and the Deputy Communications Director for Gore/Lieberman in 2000. Mr. Simmons has also worked at the Department of Commerce and as Special Assistant to Mickey Kantor at U.S.T.R.
